तालाब की मछलियों को तो शतबुद्धि और सहस्त्रबुद्धि के आश्‍वासन पर भरोसा हो गया, लेकिन एकबुद्धि मेंढक ने कहा- मित्रो ! मेरे पास तो एक ही बुद्धि है; वह मुझे यहां से भाग जाने की सलाह देती है । इसलिए मैं तो सुबह होने से पहले ही इस जलाशय को छो़ड़कर अपनी पत्‍नी के साथ दूसरे जलाशय में चला जाऊँगा । यह कहकर वह मेंढक मेंढकी को लेकर तालाब से चला गया ।
